Actuaries deal with the financial impact of risk and uncertainty. They evaluate the statistical probability of events and quantify the contingent outcomes in order to minimise the impacts of financial losses.

They work in specialist areas of insurance, pensions, benefits, healthcare, investments and banking. They work in any type of organisation where risk management plays an important role such as a consultancy advising on all sorts of projects. It takes between three to six years to qualify as an actuary.
