The term accountant does not have the same legal protection as that given to doctors and lawyers except in the areas of audit and insolvency.

Chartered Accountants advise businesses on issues from planning and starting up, managing, financing and growing their business, to exporting and exit routes. They also help with personal finances.

Chartered Management Accountants work within a business offering advice on business decisions, monitoring financial control and conducting internal audits.

Chartered Certified Accountants work in all fields of business and finance.

Accounting Technicians perform the same tasks as Chartered Accountants but cannot sign off audit reports.
